We did it! 2859 Richmond makes some waves.

Last Tuesday, Saanich Council unanimously and emphatically approved our 2859 Richmond Road proposal! In total, 30 people came out to speak in favour (5 against), sending a clear and powerful signal to Council that our region is ready for this kind of change. Our mission is to be a catalyst for change - to provide a convenient and realistic alternative to urban sprawl, accelerating our shift toward becoming a more compact, sustainable, human-scale city. That change is starting to happen. Through example, we're helping to shift the way people and policymakers think about our housing and transportation choices.

Since the public hearing, I've been flooded with emails, phone calls, new waitlist registrations, and media requests. Here’s the buzz over the last few days:

And I continue to get new media requests and there are numerous conversations are being had on social media.

Now imagine how powerful our message will be once we see people living in these homes. Car-free living is practical, cost-effective, and fun. It's good for us as individuals, communities, and global citizens. It's not for everyone, but it's the best way forward for creating sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive neighbourhoods.

We're already charging ahead with our building permit application which will probably take another 6-9 months (Saanich isn't known for being quick!). With luck, families will be moving in 2024.

This week has been a big step forward for us and we can't wait to see what the future brings!
